My old ride

Ford Falcon Station wagon. Automatic. 4.2litre engine. The most comfortable car in the world. It had a bench seat up front and once the back seats were down I could lie out straight (even with my 6'5 frame!) with room for three surfboards and luggage.

I bought it from two German backpackers for 700bucks (probably about £300 at the time). They had met in a Sydney hostel a week before, spent their first night in the southern hemisphere together and decided to buy a car and travel up the coast. By the time they got to Byron they hated each other and wanted to go their separate ways. The for sale sign on the car had $2500 crossed out, $2000 crossed out, etc etc. It was on $1000 when I saw it, offered them $700.

I lived in it for 8months. Travelled from Byron to Airlee Beach, from Sydney to Melbourne a few times, Canberra and most places in between.

It finally died, after a long and drawn out illness at DeeWhy beach, right by the point. I removed the plates and called the council to inform them of an abandoned vehicle in the carpark....
